a pre-existing or cast hole.

allows you to choose a drill diameter
size specifically suited to your drilling application. Mohawk's unique
standard tooling concept
allows you to select what other companies would consider special...
without compromising on price and delivery. Upon agreement, we will even
stock specific sizes, for same day delivery.
Choose from two overall lengths within
each diameter range and specify your coating of choice.
Features
MAXIMUM STRENGTH
Heavier web (core diameter) throughout the drill body increases rigidity
providing longer tool life.
POINT STYLE
Our special point style with 140° angle provides dynamic
features adapted to reduce thrust, while providing easier penetration,
superior self-centering capabilities as well as better tool life and
size control.
CARBIDE GRADE
We use ultra-fine carbide grade specifically
suitable for High Performance Drilling operations.
This grade provides better cutting edge strength, resists chipping
and has excellent wear prevention characteristics. Further increase
tool life within a selection of coatings.
FLUTE FORMATION
Unique flute geometry generates a profile
that produces short curled chips that are more easily evacuated
from the holes being drilled. Such elements facilitate higher penetration
rates, improved surface finish and generally improved all around
cutting condition.

MEL-EX3
The MEL-EX3 is a high precision three-flute
drill capable of performing first-class drill-reaming in one pass.
Where standard carbide tools typically require super-rigid set-ups,
the MEL-EX3’s sturdy design permits
use on a broader range of machines which may not require such strict
and uniform feed requirements.
These 3-flute drills are highly effective in a wide variety of materials
for either drilling from solid or upsizing a pre-existing or cast hole.

Features
CARBIDE GRADE
Mohawk uses ultra-fine carbide grade for all its high performance
drills. This grade gives improved cutting edge strength and stability,
preventing premature chipping and material loading. Its ultra-fine
grain size allows us to give sharper cutting edges, leading to more
consistent hole-making operations.
THREE CUTTING EDGES
The MEL-EX3’s three-flute construction distributes the
cutting forces to 3 cutting edges instead of 2. In addition, the extra
flute enables the MEL-EX3 to track straighter while in the hole, vastly
reducing runout. The third land produces a burnished-quality surface
finish, thereby eliminating the need to ream separately when hole tolerance
and surface finish permits. The MEL-EX3 design also allows the drill
to start or end on uneven surfaces and to handle interrupted cuts without
deflection.
Point Style A (PN10-65A)
Extensive
web thinning produces an aggressive, naturally self-centering “universal” point,
eliminating the need for spotting and reducing the drill’s tendency
to wander. The 130° point angle aids in accommodating the third
flute and contributes to the production of narrower chips.
Point Style C (PN10-65C)
Sharing
many of the benefits of the A point, the C point sports a spiral
design which provides top performance when machining gray cast
iron, spheroidal graphite iron, malleable cast iron, aluminum
alloys, magnesium alloys, brass, steel and cast steel.
