Applications:
Custom built three flute drills are more practical when conditions exist that require features not available on standard drills. For example: longer lengths, Intermediate diameters, special shank features, special materials or coatings. Perhaps among the most outstanding optional features to be considered are: Various spiral angles such as, straight, slow, or fast, to suit a particular application. Special point styles and grind features can be incorporated. In addition, controlled web thickness and Parabolic style flute geometry's can be specified to provide optimum chip clearing capabilities. Tools manufactured in solid carbide construction are by far the most popular but HSS tools are also available. Compared to a 2 flute drill, the 3 flute construction permits remarkably higher penetration rates and on certain applications the tool can perform spot, drill and ream operations in one pass. The 3 circular margins provide maximum support and guidance to permit more accurate size and hole location control.
